We also co-host an event on Christmas Eve for families in need of Christmas gifts, love and prayers, along with the Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen.

Home Services programs serve seniors 60 or more years of age and individuals with disabilities. Transportation is provided for seniors and public transportation is available to individuals of any age. Vehicles are available Monday through Friday with appointments scheduled according to driver availability. Wheelchair transportation is available. Donations are encouraged and fares are determined by destination and funding source. Other services provided include, Homemaker, Handyman, Respite/Assisted Care, Volunteer Services, and Information and Referral. Outreach includes enrollment in nutritional programs, loans of durable medical equipment, filling out low income tax credit forms and legal assistance. We also provide SHIP counseling (State Health Insurance Assistance Program).

Meals on Wheels of Hancock County benefits the local community by aiding disabled and aging individuals to remain in their homes as long as possible. Due to illness, disability or age, they are unable to prepare, or otherwise obtain, nutritious meals for themselves. We are the only meal program in the county that delivers physician prescribed meals, (including therapeutic and regular diets), that are individually packed based on the client’s dietary requirements.

Preserving and restoring Greenfield’s urban forest. We provide free seedlings on Arbor Day weekend, and plant street trees in public easements–more than 1500 trees since 1989 on our streets!

ROHS is in collaboration with the City of Greenfield under the auspices of the Parks Department. The museum caters to all ages and demographics. We receive local visitors as well as those from around the state, country and even world. The Home and Museum represent James Whitcomb Riley’s boyhood where he got many an inspiration for his poetry, but also the life of a prominent pioneer family before, during and after the Civil War.

The mission of the Riley Old Home Society (ROHS) is to serve present and future generations for cultural and educational purposes including the advancement of knowledge of the life and works of James Whitcomb Riley, The Hoosier Poet.
